Has anyone ever had one of these fellas? Seen them @ the LFS. Look kinda cool with the single white stripe down their side.

I had one a few years back, very cool looking cat. Mine hid mostly and one day vanished without a trace  He was very small so if he died he got scavenged up pretty quickly. I had him for a few months and he barely grew an inch. Ive always wanted another but never see them for sale.

Anyone else? I might get one of these they seem interesting from what I've researched. I just like to know how their personality is.

anyone know if these guys would be ok in a group of maybe 3 or 4?

I have one hes about an inch and a half maybe 2. Hides most of the time, Hoping he grows bigger than what he is now thats for sure.

supposedly they grow up to 16 inches there selling on liveaquaria for 20 right now at 4 inches

the black lancer grows to about 23cm. the 16" one is a different variant. its a nocturnal species and best kept singly in smaller tanks.. its quite timid and does not attack small fish.

this info i got it from www.planetcatfish.com

they are gurus on catfish

Yeah there are two variants or species that go by "black lancer" The one Turbid is speaking of is the larger of the two I believe. The other one stays quite small from what I remember. Scotcat has a good profile on them as well.

i always thought size was 12inchs
i didn't think they got any bigger than that, either. one of my LFS has had a 4"er for quite some time. i'm super tempted to pick it up every time I go in there, but I know it won't fit w/ my other tanks and I would need to set up another tank for it. very cool fish.
