has anyone set up a black light as a "night light" to see what their night time fish do? i was thinking about doing it with a spare strip light i have to watch my black ghost knife, spotted raphael, peacock eel, and clwon plec

Wow i cant believe ive never thought of that haha. Thanks for the idea and im about to do it right now. I have a 1.5' blacklight in my closet for some reason. haha

I have one set up at the moment due to hte inability to source an actinic bulb when I was making the hood. They give of an amazingly low light level in the water. Also makes it look amazingly cloudy, there may as well be no light at all.

haha yeah super cloudy not what i thought it would look like and i hate hoe the glow of the blacklight messis with ur eyes

I have a 48" T12 black light. The light doesn't pentrate the water down to the bottom of the tank, it only makes it 12" down or so, fading rapidly. I can see shadows of my fish if they're near the top, but I can't tell which are which.

Here's a picture:

The blue light is my heater.

i had one for a while and hated it. it only lit up the top level of the tank. and since all my nocturnal fish where bottom dwellers it did nothing but be a purple night light.

would there be anything i could use as a night light to monitor the activities of my sneaky nighttime ninjas?
