I am hopefully purchasing a Black Longnose Tang tomorrow, as long as they still have them in stock(they did today). I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them and any special care tips. From the little I can find on them they seem to be pretty hardy fish that are similar in care to Yellow tangs and other Sailfins.

Any personal experience out there? Hardiness? Compatibility? Anything else?

I know its a rare and expensive fish so I am not expecting a lot of people.

If/when I get one of these I will have to get rid of the purple tang I have. Still trying to get rid of the bloat it had when I took it in.

The Atlantic Blue tang will be out of QT soon and hopefully will get along with the Black Tang. If not, then bye bye Blue tang as well.

One of the local guys in my area has one and I asked him about it since I was well aware of how awesome that fish is.

He said he didn't do anything different to it than he did with his other zebrasoma tangs, but it didn't get along with them so his yellow was banned to his frag tank.

He didn't have it in with any other types though as far as I know. Im not baller enough to have any personal experience other than that though.

Thanks for the info. Ha I am able to get one quite cheap right now. That is why I am going for it, can't say I would ever foot the bill for a full priced one.

I would have banned the yellow to the frag tank, or better yet, the LFS. Haha

Super excited for this dustin.

One of my favorite Zebrasoma tangs: Purple, black, dessi sailfin, scopas.

Also, I was also going to say, treat it like a yellow, or any other high end tang.

20x tank turnover in flow at least, lots of good food, and lots of big h2o changes.

I know you know, but for everyone else. They didn't have any in stock, but I now have the guy looking for one for me and he is calling as soon as they come in. I was told it should be a few weeks. If it takes longer than that I most likely will go hand pick it myself when it comes in.

Lol on the zebrasomas....you listed half of em! I agree on the first 3 for sure tho.

Gotcha on the water quality stuff, I figured as much.

I am more interested in what they have been kept with and what order they were put in. I have read a lot about them being very aggressive, but also quite a few places saying not very aggressive at all. I would optimally like to keep it with a Hippo and/or the Atlantic Blue I already have, the purple will have to go or stay in the 75 since the bloat won't subside. I might just bring it into work and put it in the 150 gallon reef tank which btw is looking way way better now that I have put some effort and expertise into it. If it ever gets healthy I could sell it, otherwise it could just stay happily in the reef.

Meh whatever. I just think people have individual issues with tangs...and then all of a sudden they are all huge issues. You dig hard enough you will hear bad things about almost any tang.

I read WWM and I take the information, but try not to look too deep into anything.

Ha alright! I hope I can tell you before then though.

I will also tell you that you will absolutely love the Scribbled and Tusk. The Scribbled is my favorite fish, tons of personality all while being quite skittish actually. I did a water change the other day and she ran into a hole too small to fit in and scratched her side and eye all up. It has been about a week and she is all better now though.

I don't have experience with the personifer at all, are you talking true or false personifer? Multiple tanks or are you trying to mix Chaedontoplus angels? If so, what size tank?

to answer your questions,

multiple tanks..175g bowfront(6ft)fowlr, 210g(6ft)fowlr, 200g(7ft)fowlr 75g mini softie reef

fasle personifer(i actually like the looks of the false over the true and a bonus is its cheaper as well)

yeah i know i will love the scribbled, unfortunatley i had one before and lost her, she was a FIGHTER to live though, she came in flike infested, got an eye infection and lost the eye and then about 1 year later just found her dead one morning, she was my baby and very very interactive with me, as she spent several months in a qt tank right on my desk and was not shy or skittish as time went on because of being right where i was at all the time for the 1st 3-4 months before she got healthy enough to go into the DT

the scribbled will be going in the 210g(right next to my most occupied daytime spot in the house..my computer chair and recliner) with a regal angel who is out of qt and in the 75g reef, until i get the scribbled and get her thru qt then they will both go into the DT(210g) at the same time, the personifer and tusk will go into the 175g bow, the 200 is FULL(tang heavy). iam hoping to put the black tang(next year) into the 210g with the scribbled and regal

Wow, quite the assortment of tanks. I would love to see some pics of your tanks.

I agree with you, they seem to be very hardy and can handle a lot. It sounds like yours went through quite a bit and it is impressive that it lived as long as it did.

I like the looks of the false more as well. The facial markings just seem to be more vibrant and yes, the price tag makes a difference.

I presume your Regal Angel is of the Red Sea variety? How long have you had it and how/what has it been eating? I would like to hear how the Scribbled and Regal coexist when you get them. I have always been intrigued by the Regal and think that would be the only other angel I could get into my 210 with the Scribbled and Emperor and not have problems. I just haven't been up to the challenge yet, because they are notorious for not eating as I am sure you are aware.

If it isn't too much trouble I would like to see your stock lists for each tank. I always like to see what people are mixing and how it is working out.
