I'm thinking about buying a group (3-6) of black Molly fry from the person who owns the tank at my school. I've been looking for a new livebearer species to breed since I just wrapped up my tequila sunrise guppy breeding project. The one reason I'm hesitant is because the fry are pretty far inbred (but then again, most livebearers are) and the tank they're in is not well taken care or and hasn't had a single water change since July, so nitrates are probably pretty high. It's a 55G with 4 neon tetras, 1 glofish, 1 paleatus Cory, and now 14 black mollies (8 are fry). The reason I want to buy them is like I said I've been looking for a nice new livebearer to breed and also I feel bad for them and want to rescue them. However I'm afraid that they might be bringing disease with them into my tank and I don't have a QT tank (I probably should though since I have 12 setups soon to be 28). Should I get a small group and risk it or just forget the risk and get a different livebearer at my local fish club meeting at the end of the month?
