Black Nasty and Beani in community tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
At this point, the beani are @3' and although snippy, they seem to tolerate each other. I expect if I end up with one pair out of 12, that's lucky. And they seem to ignore the Acarichthys at this point.

maybe the heckelli look different enough as to not seem a territorial or feeding type threat.

im interested in seeing how that works out for you Duanes. you may be on to somethng. if yours work out then it may be possible to keep Beani with non territorial cichlids and other fish

Here is a post of mine on another Beani thread this morning. (didnt feel like typing it twice

"WOW! :WHOA: Well I currently have a 4" Beani in my large show tank. He shares it with a Bleekeri(yes a Bleekeri), 2 Hon. Jags, and a Grammode female of equal size, and also with Hoga 11", loisellei 11", Kraussi 12", Devil 10", Grammode 9", Uropthalmus 9", Lenticulata Pike 9", and a few stragglers around 6-7". So far the Beani keeps to him self, and doesnt even bother the smaller fish, in fact he hangs in the same cave as one of my Jags.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying that Beani are peaceful, and that you all are smoking crack. :) Im just saying that it is working for me so far. And strongly agree with cacichlids about your Beani being the one to do all the damage."
watch out when that beani is full grown!

if you cram it up, u can. No focused target. Just uncomfortable living for all

I have had adult beani before, and they could not be kept with others. If I get a pair, I expect to to keep them without others.

how come it's orange? Is is mixed Bocourti?

Not a hybrid, different locations (rivers), slightly different color differences. The older they got, the more copper the color. I also feed a high carotene diet, normally used for koi.

I got two 1 inch beanis in a planted 30 gal. One is slightly bigger and chases the smaller one around when ever he comes out the plants.
