You could house 1 alone in a 55 gal, but he will love a 75 gal. The 75 has more room for him to turn around.

They can grow up to 14", I wouldn't house one in a 55.

I would say 75 "minimum" with a 125 preferred. I've heard nothing but good things about their personality and you should give them the appropriate room to display that.

My pair made a 150 gal tank appear small.

Including the tail, the male easily hit 15", the pair would allow "no" tankmates.
