How big of a tank does a Nandopsis haitiensis need? I'm curious because every where I look says that these cichlids are very aggressive and I like the way they look. And is there anything that looks almost the same but smaller?

U could keep 1 in a 75 gal to start out and that should do for about a 1year asuming u purchased a juvinile fish.Then u would definetly need a 6' long tank they are active swimmers a adult male would need a 125gal to stretch his fins and a pair i think u could get away with a 150-180gal tank.
An absolute minimum of 125 gallons but 180 being comfortable. They are one of the bulkiest cichlids around even more so than Umbee or Dovii. As dovii are more stream line BN are deep and fat. My dad hs one in a 240 and he's about 7 inches and he is so bulky and heavy. He's a badass fish.

Well if he is the king of a tank with a 13 inch Midas, 12 inch Devil and a Beani that is 14 years old and massive he is pretty damn badass. I am not sure the length of the Beani but he is deinately bigger than the Midas. The BN is only 7 inches and rules.
Yeah, black nasty's are crazy mean. I would agree with everyone else and go with 125 gallons minimum for a male without tankmates.
