Black or Leichardti ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have my 12" black in a 150g with a 10" female Kamala FH, 11" Amphilophus Amarillo, 12" tiger Oscar, 4" midas, 6" Amphilophus Chancho. The FH and Amarillo have started their breeding process. The black pwns the top and the amarillos owns the tank. IMO my tank is not overstocked (not yet. when the fry are born then yes. lol). SO far so good. no one bothers the black cause he's to big. IMO it depends on the fish. trial and error. I had a jar in there and he owned everyone. I had a Lei in there and he did the same...I got rid of them both. I got another jar to replace the lei and old jar. This one is a lot more docile than the old jar and lei.

but the Jar is in a grow out tank with a school of silver AT's.

BTW my tank dems are 5'L x 2'W x 2'H

Thanks for the reply ....did you notice a difference in the black's growing rate vs. the lei's, which one grows faster ?....Also it seems that the concept of lei being generally less aggressive than jardini is more a myth than a fact.

I'm not answering for him but most likely th black grew slower, but then again lei don't get as large... hmm

dude.. Jardini and Lei are the same aggression... if anything Silvers aren't as aggressive.. I had a silver with lots of other cichlid and he doesnt bother them....

My Jardini at 5" however....... has already started developing a method of chasing his tankmates for fun... (Which i dont find amusing) anyways.... ur 125gallon is good for 9 months max.... after that start looking to upgrade to a taller and wider tank... 6 x 2 x 2 is best.. or 8 x2 x2

I would say a blk arowan tho.. their more rare in terms of availablility...

i would suggest not getting a arow. as tempting as it is even if the tank was just for the arow alone it probly wouldnt last a year and a half in a 125. well probly the lei but the next thing to think about is the bio load

both arowanas are very good choices. I also know of a lady who raised a silver arowana from 12 inch to 34 inches no problem in a 60 gallon it was one of the best looking silvers i have seen so far very nice head shape. but out of the two i would get the lei because they are more colorful as adults..

60 GALLON?!?!?!?! thats crazy o.o

Unless the water was sprinkled with magic fairy dust and food was made by the hands of Chuck Norris I find that kind of hard to believe.
