I was wondering what is the difference between a Black Piranha and a Red-Bellied Piranha, besides the color haha? I was planning on getting 3 or one of them but I can not decide. Could anyone give me some personal advice on both? Including tank size, feeding, aggresssion and so on.

Red bellies are a schooling fish, which means they like to be in groups. You would need at least three of them and a BARE Minimum of a 55 gallon tank ( which will only be sufficiant for a couple years). Blacks are piranha that like to be on their own, if you put two together chances are they will kill eachother.

as far as tank size go about the same Have u ever had Piranha's b4?.. they r not as MEAN as one would think

Just in my own opinion, black p's tend to look nasty/vicious due totheir lower angular jaw and dark-alley/sewer type of look... :D Red belly p's look relatively peaceful and tranquil (unless visible teeth!), unless it's feeding time... :WHOA:

Yeah I know they aren't too mena, but I always found them interesting fish. I havn't kept them before, but as far as stocking it could be either 3 RBP to a 55 for a while, or 1 Black Piranaha to a 55. How many blacks in a 55, or is three the awnser.

1, like timmy said - they are solitary predators, not shoaling fish. Put 2 or more rhoms in the same tank and they'll kill each other.

Im the proud owner of a 3 inch rhom..he actually very viscious!!! One is recommended definately..at the shop i bought him from he was in the next tank to another 1 an it would not leave the side...all it wanted to do was break through the glass and kill he other !!! hehe

Ok I have ordered 3 RBP, I think they may be around 3-4" or maybe a little less I'm not too sure. Should I feed them bloodworms, earth worms, feeders.............anything else?

Blacks get considerably larger than Red bellies

I had my RB feeding on regular fish food -krill, prawn, etc...never bothered with live....they were the easiest to take care of and turned into a breeding pair
which my LFS was thankful.....a 55 is a great size for 2 or 3....2 when they start to get full size
