Black or Red Bellied?

You will eventually need to get a larger tank. They will get to a foot long or more and a 55 is really too small. You will need at least a 90 gal when they get bigger. I would not suggest feedin them feeders, because they carry disease, and when they get larger they will eat a ton and it will cost you a fortune. Try silversides, krill, prawn and when they get larger you can even feed them fish fillets.

I've owned rbp before and they are cool when feeding time comes but other than that pretty boring. I really would like to have owned a monster rhom. I think a solitary black rhom with deep red eyes looks totally sick. Just imagine looking at a 17" red eyed devil fish everytime you pass by the tank. Black rhoms are sick!

I find they tend to stay proportional to tank size - when I had the two they stayed at or under 10" max (9" most likely) for the 5-6 years I had them

I could have moved them to a larger, but they werent stressed at all in the 55 IMHO

I think the reds are by far nicer looking IMO

how many red' s do you think you could put and keep in a 220?

The general rule of tankspace for rbps is 20 gal for each fish. But as always more is better. For a rhom that's way more than enough. You can get away with 12 rbp's, you can even get a mixed pygo shoal. Just try to get them when they're small, getting different sized p's at once might or might not work. Its amazing how fast they grow the first 5-6". Its like an inch a month until 5" then an inch a year.

Rhoms are very solitary fish, They will rarely work out together with any other fish.

Red belly piranaha's are pussys. they are always hidding. you could watch them for hours until they finally attack a gold fish. a black piranha is the meanest one. the will go right after the gold fish. they are so agressive they can have to be kept alone because they will eat each other.

I know many people who have kept RBPs alone fine, you don't NEED shoals.

rombs are one of the meanest fish to ever swin on this planet earth.
