Black or Silver?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would def say get the tank first then. I know the feeling of allocating money haha, i'm trying to upgrade my tank..as well as modify my truck..

you too...haha i am close, just need lights, tires, step bars, paint, grill, fix the bed cover.... damn still a ways to go...then another a minni truck to build. i also have to get a house soon. all that while tring to get a few female hystrix rays, 3 black aros to go with my 3 silvers, and build a 10'x 5'x 2'. good times...

op blacks and silvers look almost the same as adults. so you have the young stages for colors, simmilar to silvers. i like them both, do what you can do, then when an opertunity arises when you can, get another. youll have plenty of room in that final tank for a group.

Anybody have a general price range of similar tank builds. I need to know how big my piggy bank needs to be.

all depends on what how you want to do it. i can build a 10'x 5'x 3' pond for $400. no glass. the glass is going to be the biggest expense of your whole build. the lumber should run about $400 -600+- depending on your stand. glass or acrilic will run more.

No question, black all the way. The initial cost of the fish shouldn't even come into it, spread over the lifetime of the fish and compared to the costs of feeding, housing and maintaining a fish of that size a couple of hundred extra seems insignificant. Do you really want to look at a big silver with droopy eyes for the next ten years and think "if only I'd spent a little more"...

x2

Agreed, if money is a big issue and you need space ASAP then an all-timber (no window) and pond-liner build would be a good idea, and you could have it at ground level with a trickle filter above to save on having to build a stand. A paddling pool would be another cheap option. At least that way your fish are adequately housed while you're saving for the tank.

And if you're saving for a house then quit wasting money on cars, I found I had so much more spare once I gave up on modifying vehicles!!

If I can't get the 10x3x3 up and running before the aro gets big then I can always make some room and bring in my frame pool. Its about 12' in diameter and 3' deep, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

i am in a catch 22. i need a house and i love to wrench. i think for the time being i am just going to get my tires and call it a day. until i get into my house, that is. my minni build can wait it is drivable as is, and my full size pickup needs 35" tires. the 32" i have look way to small with the 6" lift. the 5' wife has a hard time getting in and out with no step so i think to keep her off my back ill throw $150 down and get her a step aswell.
