you can remove spray paint just as easy as you can remove arcylic. Acrylic paint is more likely to chip off. All the tanks that I've painted with acrylic I've had to put 3-4 coats on, and the filters always end up peeling the paint off anyways. Better chance of having it look inconsistent too. I used to use the cheap acrylic paints from walmart but now I just use spray paint. Go with spray paint.

I honestly don't even pay attention. I've used all different kinds. I'm a big fan of the $1 spray paint or whatever is on sale lol. Just make sure if you're doing a big tank and it takes you 2 cans to use the same stuff. I don't think it would be a good idea to mix different kinds.

If you want something really cool, get the $5-6 textured spray paint by rustoleum. I used that stuff on one of my tanks with pool filter sand and it looks awesome. Took a whole can to do the back of a 55gallon though but it was well worth it. Easily the coolest looking background I've ever seen on a tank. Looks kind of natural, especially with pool filter sand. Makes me wish I had another tank to paint.

here are 2 shots for reference..
