Black Piranha Friends??

I am pretty sure that Caribe have never been bred in captivity before. I could be wrong though. I thought the only Piranha that could be bred in captivity is the Red Belly. I had Caribe and Red Belly's and was only ever able to get the Reds to breed. I also have never heard of a Black Piranha (Rhom) getting 30 inches.

I believe Wolf had a big rohm. Im not doubting the size but unless they're taken out of the water with a yard stick/measuring tape next to them then there is always a few inches that go either way. I do believe the rhom was over 24" and I do believe Wolf is a great fish keeper.

Altimaser - There has been other P's bred in captivity. Caribe's, have not been bred as far as I know, but maybe a REAL EXPERT does. Gold spilo's have been bred, and there is another one I just forgot the name...

It seems highly unlikely that a black rhom would reach 30 inches in captivity. Perhaps there are a few grandpa monster rhoms in the wild lurking in dark corners. There are some exceptions to size in the wild. Please tell me what hormones you injected yours with. Does miracle grow work on fish? I could be rich...rich I tell ya! Our black piranha was caught from the wild at about 16 inches and when he passed away he wasn't much more than 17. This took a tiny bit over a year. I think this thread is silly and pointless. All research supports the theory that they only grow about an inch a year. So I say this to the whole thing :raspberry:raspberry:raspberry.

i'm not saying i fully believe the vendors story and he was problaby over exagerating as many do to sell fish, i'm stateing what he told me. i personally don't belive anything unless i see pics of that thing. but i'm sure that in the wild there a rhoms bigger than anyones has, undoubtably 22-24". growing a fish in a 125 gallon tank with some filtration and feeding will never get to those sizes. i personally think this thread has run it's course.

No- and i'll explain both sides to you- being that in the wild there is a food chain, many fish will not live as long as they would in captivity or grow as large as possible, but in general because of the fact that "the wild" has virtually unlimited space, and food avaliabitly. they always grow larger in the wild, every species of fish. though if you took a couple dovii's for instence put them in a custom made 7895000000 gallon aquarium, gut loaded steriods had a waterfall filtration system, perfect parameters, and complete cut off the out side food chain as most hobbyists do, than there is a good chance you could grow a dovii or other fish to larger than normal sizes. but if you have ever gorwn out a fish to adult max size in an aquarium, such as for instence a jaguar and went out and caught a wild full grown male you'll see the difference, male jaguars in captivity max size- 16", male jagaus in the wild max size-22". my 2 cents
