black piranha temperature

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have my black piranha in a tank with a temperature of 80F to 81F.

they can handle that temperature but ideal temperature for them is around 78-82F

higher temperature will increase their metabolism and aggression. who told you they should be in water 84-86F? I normally keep water temperature around 80F.
usually when you treat disease or injuries you increase the temperature to 82F to help recover (or higher temperature, such as 86F or above for heat treatment for ich but for only short period of times ~ 10 days to 2 weeks)
when temperature is too high the fish will be more stressed (it's like how you would feel in a hot day without air condition on). you'll still live and grow but a bit more stressed.

Why do you even have a heater? Are they in a garage or something? If their in a house n your comfortable your fish should be also.heaters are just one more thing to buy that could be spent elsewhere! IMO. I have tanks from 2 1/2 gals with eggs n fry to huge tanks and only time I might use a heater is to hatch eggs quicker.just something taking up another plug-in n wasting electricity.

they are tropical fish and thrive best at certain ideal water temperature (usually 78-82F).
I don't think anyone keeps their home constantly at 78-82F, it would be too hot for human to feel comfortable, at least I won't.
normally we feel comfortable around 72F, give or take a few deg depends on person to person and that would be a bit cooler for tropical fish, they don't die from that temperature but usually will be less active and grow slower. and air temperature could be different than water temperature.

Idk. I guess I froze to many years working in sub-zero weather cause 76-78 feels damn good in shorts! All my tanks stay steady 80degrees.all my fish grow great!my fish aren't stressed, in fact their multipling like crazy!I have parrots also so they love the 76-78 area too!
