Why do you even have a heater? Are they in a garage or something? If their in a house n your comfortable your fish should be also.heaters are just one more thing to buy that could be spent elsewhere! IMO. I have tanks from 2 1/2 gals with eggs n fry to huge tanks and only time I might use a heater is to hatch eggs quicker.just something taking up another plug-in n wasting electricity.

how large are your huge tanks?

Idk. I guess I froze to many years working in sub-zero weather cause 76-78 feels damn good in shorts! All my tanks stay steady 80degrees.all my fish grow great!my fish aren't stressed, in fact their multipling like crazy!I have parrots also so they love the 76-78 area too!

if where you live is warm enough to keep water temperature at 80deg then that's good for you.
that explains why you didn't have the need for heater, but you can't tell that to everyone since not everyone is in the same situation as you, especially for people that keep fish tanks in unheated basement and live in a cold climate. to a lot of us heater is a necessity and not over rated.

Well its common sense that just cause something works for me might not work same for you.that's just a given.from lights to water to heaters.there's so many factors that make everyone situations different!

Oh it gets cold here.four seasons!from 0degrees to 110degrees I pretty sure I asked if they in basement or garage to warrent a heater.

Have you met people on the internet? Look at the questions they're asking! i prepare for the worse and hope for the best. In other words, i assume they lack common sense and hope they do have it!

Not just the internet, thats the public in general. Many idiots roaming the streets.

the heat would make them more active but it may shorten there life span im guessing just a thought
