OK, so, I used to own 5, 4-5" red bellies when i was in University. I had to give them away when I graduated because I didn't know where I was going to end up (they went to a good home). Now that I'm rich and successful (HA! yea right..), I want to get back into Piranha keeping. I am thinking about going for a solo Black Piranha from the Xingu River to get a more aggressive, show fish. I would like to use a 55 gallon because it fits where I want the fish. Does anyone see any problems with me switching from the shy rbps to a more exciting/aggressive Black Piranha? Any help would be greatly appreachiated.

I see no problem with that as long as you start with a smaller rhom anywhere from 3-6 inches he/she could stay in a 55g for several years no problem BUT you will have to get a larger tank I'd say no smaller than a 125g at some point with ANY rhom you get hope this helps some, I have a small rhom in a 55 and he/she will be there for a couple of years but I also have a 135g for him to go into.....

Go Ahead, I just got a 10 inch Blue Diamond Yesterday. Now he's a monster. Try to get at least a 7 inch one, they look more meaner with the red eyes. I'll try to post some pics later!!

Manueli piranhas are very sensitive (more so as adults) to water quality so I would recommend staying away from these if you have a smallish tank.

Yeah, to sensitive & pricey to risk in a small tank. Rhombs are a better intoduction or brandti if you find some.
