What are you using it for? What kind you use depends on the purpose. For instance, some pvc is not meant for pressure applications. I designed a gadget for one of my tanks using black pvc, but I had to design it specifically do that it was not under pressure. You can PM me if you want (if you're private about your specific use). I designed a way to do 60% water changes by opening a ball valve. however, it only draws water from the bottom of the tank and does it in such a manner that it collects the fish waste as well.

I can also give you some ideas of how to improve your idea.

The black pipe is called ABS. ABS pipe and fittings are made from a thermoplastic resin called Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene. You don't see it in aquariums bacause the pipe stock floats. However, ABS pipe fittings (Ts, elbows, etc.) do sink.

And, for anyone who's curious, PVC is polyvinyl chloride.

Both types are readily available from the hardware chain stores.

All the Home Depots in my area have ABS. Maybe try a different location? Around here there are Home Depots or Lowes everywhere. I used a ABS "T" in my 10 gallon, the fish loved to hide/ swim through it.
