Umm...are you sure it's a black rat snake? When they're born they're not black and are about a foot long.

3 inches is not a black rat snake, more like 10 at the least

well i will take a pic so it can be ID'd. the reason i think he is a black rat is cuz i was looking at pics to see what he was and thats what he looked most like.

Fair enough. Like someone else said, baby rat snakes often look nothing like an adult....as goes for many snakes.

Looks like a worm snake or ground snake. Hey friend, just FYI, in Georgia, its illegal to own native species (i.e. these snakes you keep finding in your backyard.)
