I JUST CANT WAIT TILL THEY DO COME IN AND IM SURE WE ALL CANT WAIT TILL U CAN GET A NICE BLACK RAY FOR 500 BUCKS AGAIN.

I think that subject will be a never ending hot topic. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think the price will come down in the near future. The rays IBAMA releases every year, or everytime they feel like it will just end up enriching the gene pool of the major breeders around the world, or just make the day of some bummed up hardcore hobbyists :headbang2 ...but in the end, the demand out there is way higher than the available stocks.

I have to give props to Mike, to my knowledge, his effort brought us the lowest price for captive bred stock. I really hope he'll keep on doing us a favour and keep it that way, as for the low price for the black rays, I think it was overly said, mentioned, underlined, YELLED FROM THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST MOUNTAINS ...wake up, the price is not coming down! Not in the near future anyway.

One more thing, if I may, I really hope the price for black rays won't drop to 500$ again, or we're going to experience an increase in the loss of rays to the hands of too eager and not-so-experienced new owners. As it is now, the price of a black pup at least stimulates one to take time and research what owning a ray means and entails. Seriously, let's face it, a lot of the wild stocks of the past were lost because of that.

Exactly so many rays died because some old glory day vendors sold them dirt cheap to whoever would pay with no knowledge of rays ... I bet thousands were killed from ignorance o well atleast those vendors made a buck ya'know ;)

I think they should put restrictions or taxes on fish that get 'too large' for domestic aquarium so owning things like a Pacu and RTC would be expensive and actually mean a little something more than just another big dump common fish

it make me :ROFL:when people say they are waiting for black diamond to come out of Brazil

how many did you see for sale before the ban for some reason people think their will be more for sale now they seam to forget true black diamonds are rare :D

I'm selling my WC Boulengerochromis pair ...someone contacted me and asked for the price. My first question was "How big your tank is?!?" ...he answered "700gal" and my reaction was "when do you want them shipped?!?"

There's a lot of responsability on the individuals who'd get large fish, rays, or whatever, but in the end, there's an even larger responsability on the vendors to make sure they have informed customers.

jom rare has been stiring up shibby ever since i can remember
i have always found it amuseing yet people always battle with him
i got my breeders from him years ago and bought rays from him a bunch of times and remember when he was selling leos for 175 each never had a problem with him anyway:popcorn:

YOU CAN SAY THAT ABOUT ANY PRETTY MUCH ANY FISH THATS NOT A TETRA OR GUPPY. WHY SHOULD THEY PUT A TAX ON RAYS ONLY TO KEEP THEM OUT OF THE HANDS OF AMETURES. WHAT ABOUT THE HUNDREDS OF OTHER FISH THAT GET BIGGER THAN 10 INCHES. IVE SEEN LPS SELL PEEPS PACUS AND THEY HAD A 20 GALLON TANK. IN MY STORE WE ASK FIRST THEN SELL. CANT SAY THAT ABOUT EVERYONE. ITS ALL ABOUT SUPPLY AND DEMAND. PEOPLE IN THE US ARE LIKE THIS. THE MORE THEY CANT HAVE IT, THE MORE THEY WANT IT. ITS THE AMERICAN WAY. PUT NEON TETRAS ON BAN AND THEY WILL BE WORTH 100.00 EACH LOL

Unfortunately it is not that simple. As cruel and simplistic as it may sound, a fish is not the same thing as a ray. Breeding ratio for a fish are far beyond the capabilities of a ray and to compare the loss of wild caught rays with the loss of fish is a little bit of an unfair statement.

I totally agree with the "must have everything" way of the North American culture, but that's not something to be born with, it's a learned thing and as all learned things, here's one opportunity for the less driven to just consume to educate a little the ones willing to listen ...to make a difference. Am I right?!?

I feel like a preacher right now ...enjoy ray keeping responsibly :headbang2:
