I have a 75 gallon aquarium with 14 Zebras, 6 red wagtail platties a male beta and a plecostimus.
I want to add some color, and was thinking about Black Ruby Barbs, but wonder if they would nip the fins on the beta? Does anyone have experience with this combination?

Thanks,
Tiger 129

Any male ruby bard I've kept was physcho aggressive... towards the female ruby barbs. But the group of female ruby barbs I kept only chased eachother.
With that said, I wouldn't have kept a betta with them.

How about cherry barbs?peaceful and the males get a nice red when mature, other fish that may work include fire tetras, celestial danios, and glass catfish

Ruby barbs have the same exact temperament as tiger barbs. Normally they will squabble amongst themselves however a fish with long flowing fins will be irresistible to them. Care is very much the same to a tiger barb, even if kept in larger numbers I still don't think it would be enough to stop their urge to chase a Betta

Thanks for the replies. I suspected that their temperament would be similar to tiger barbs but wanted to ask someone who knew. I will look into the cherry barbs, also rummy nose tetras.
