Black sand-blasting sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also food for thought that some one else might be able to answer on here. Every one is allways talking about using that pool sand mad for pools can you get that in black. Because that's what you want right is black safe and cheap exct. I know that stuff is cheap. So i guess the real quistion you should be asking here is what kind of sand can i get in a large quontentee that is black and aquirium safe. And i would like to add that in no way shape or form was i trying to be rude i some times comes off that way. And i hope you find what you are looking for.

Sincerely

The stuff they have it Menards is called BlackBlast. I found this on there site:
http://www.optaminerals.com/blackblast_coal_slag.html

This was the most important part:

Technical Data

SiO2 (Silicon Dioxide, Total) 46.5%
Al2O2 (Aluminum Oxide) 22.5%
Fe2O3 (Iron Oxide) 19.0%
CaO (Calcium Oxide) 5.5%
LOI 3.0%
MgO 1.0%
K2O 1.0%
TiO2 1,0%
SiO2 (Crystalline Silica) < 0.1%

LOI stands for Loss On Ignition, seeing as Blackblast is Coal Slag it s probably leftover carbon.

Otherwise it all appears safe, either insoluble or they make good micronutrients for plants.
I can't speak for the black magnum brand, but blackblast is what I can get, and at $6.99 for a 50Lbs. bag I feel its worth a try.

this is the 2nd time ive come aross this ? and ive been useing this stuff in 2 of my tanks for over a year. the only problem i have had with it is it did take out a cheap aqua tech filter. i have it in a 125gal with south american cichlids and a 55gal with africans. i would also like to add my 125gal is also on the same sump as my 150gal that has a stingray, silver aro, and clown knife(so they are also exposed to the water with the sand). i have had no problems with my fish and the suck it up and spit the suff out all around the tank.

I haven't but I most certainly plan to. Manufacture claims zero heavy metals and not salts... Near as I can tell that = safe to me.

Anyonr ever use a product from Menard's? It is a black sand-blasting sand made from coal slag. It says it's inert. I've felt it and it's not sharp.

if you are one of the ones that believe carbon is bad for your fish, definitely don't use it.

Talk about bringing the dead back.......
I've had in a planted tank with my Fahaka for 3 years. No problem.
