California. Here's a couple of pics I took. I found a lot of those in there. To me that's not good for geos especially if they're sifting through the sand.

Np. You learn as you go. I just went with playsand just to play it safe. It looks nice but would've preferred the black sand. Just didn't have enough money to buy the lfs black sand.

almost looks like wire... are they breakable? the previous stuff I've read about, their stuff was glass and didn't look like that. was mostly little shards.
certainly not good for sifters. lots of possibilities for scrapes, gouges, and punctures.
black diamond blasting sand is coal slag, so this stuff probably comes from silica inside the coal veins. stuff dug from lines low in silica would avoid this problem.
do your bags have a location on them?
if someone started a thread where everyone posted where theirs came from, they could map out the good/bad areas to buy.
Gill Blue, I completely agree with you there man. I have 3 bags left in the garage I'm going to open here in awhile and pre rinse for any future projects just so I can photo the process and results.
It just absolutely baffles me the inconsistencies they could have across the country. If someone else doesn't start the thread, I will later when I'm at a PC. using the phone is horrible for m me to txt w/.
I genuinely feel bad for being such a proponent of the stuff in this post, but it's hard to believe otherwise when I've used so much of it .

it's not really inconsistencies as far as they are concerned. this is a waste product they can make money off of. they don't make it, it's junk left over.
and little pieces of glass don't cause issues in sandblasting, just a little more dust.
Yes they are breakable. Seems like glass. I'll take a pic later of my bags that I have left over.
