I would say the same regarding colour. If you check the pictures on fishbase (although I don't believe all of their pictures are identified correctly as chrysophekadion), even in their native environment, they don't stay dark as they age.

That is a fair old hit list your black shark has taken out. I've been quite lucky and don't have that level of aggression.

I am sure they all have different levels of aggression, yours appears very mild.

Mine kills by sucking through the skin over time and the infections and constant badgering kill the fish. Big red tails he killed by sucking through the boney plate on their head till he gets right to the brain. Remember this was in the 52,000 where you would expect fish to just get out of his way.

He killed just as easily in the 15,000 and had to be removed from there also.

Here is a pic with about 40,000 gallons removed in order to catch him and a few Panagasius sanitswongsei which I gave to a friend.

By lowering the water he also gets trapped on one side or the other of the 4" wall. It still took 2 hours to get him.

mine picked on the distichodus. ive had several, they were all agressive. Some very, some just a little. Black Sharks are better 4 ponds, lakes etc...in aquarium i would worry about its tankmates

Great fish, but not for aquariums with other fish. By the way, the one I used to own killed one of my Redline snakeheads. Absolute brute that loved to pester all the other fish.

I had one that was a foot, he was mean, but my Texas/Jaguar hybrid kept him in check.

Later I had an Albino Black shark that was very peaceful but only got up to 8 inches before passing.

I have had my redtail shark now for comming up to 2 years he is about 1 ft to 1 1/2 ft long .

i keep him with:
Green severum
Parot Fish
Gongo Tetras x3
1 platty ( got it from a friend)
and 3 plecos

I have seen my shark being very aggresive to other fish for example. i went out and bought a 3ft Black knife fish thinking if its bigger then she shark it will surive but i was wrong with in about 3 hours of putting him in he was dead "sucked to death is a good term".

So from my experience i dont see much aggretion apart from if there is some thing bigger then it in the tank. mine is perfectly fine with small fish i even used to have some neons in there for a good few mounth untill i moved them out and he didnt attack 1 of them.

My opinion is that they are great fish great to watch and look at but make sure he is the biggest thing in the tank or else they will get very aggresive!

Any more thoughts!

Cheers Tony
