Does anyone have any good info on this fish? Ie reliable stats. I know I could google but I trust people on here more, there is a large body of experience here really. I was wondering if it would be suitable to keep with clown loaches? I am concerned that it is a piggish fish and will steal all the food as I have tinfoils once, hopefully this fish is not like that. I am looking for a non skittish fish - used to keep silver sharks but they where afraid of their own shadows. Does anyone that keeps them have any pics or good info?
Thanks in advance

I have not kept one but from what I have read they grow huge, can be aggressive towards certain tank mates especially other black sharks, and can be destructive in a tank

I've seen one subadult in person. One was about 18" long and was a harbinger of chaos. This guy was in a 100g+ tank and did nothing but swim bluntly back and forth, ignoring everything and smashing into objects at random. I think he was in a 'tiny tank trance' but with the strength and energy he showed, I'd think one would need a pond or 300g+ to keep this species. :twocents:

I had a 10 inch black shark that was pretty mean but the 12 inch Cichlid kept him in place.

I also had an 8 inch albino black shark... very peaceful.

They generally have a rep for being murderers, I think your loaches would be toast. The loaches have a sort of similar body type and are bottom fish generally, probably a bad mix. I would try maybe a redtail shark or rainbow shark if you want one of the Labeo type "sharks", not as big and nasty.

I've also read 2' max and I think somebody on here had one near that with either pics or a video of it. Impressive fish.

Hm thanks for the info. more more!

2' max, can be very aggressive. arapaimag had one in his 52k (or was it 15k? not sure) but even in that massive tank it beat the crap out of several of his fish so he had to keep it in a 200g all alone.

they can also "suck" on the other fish, which is what i think michaels did.

i guess i was lucky, my old guy was pretty cool, i actually did have him in with some clown loaches if i recall, they were around 8'' and the bk was 16'' when it passed.
