my black shark is now about 7-8 in and just started eating minnows. is this common? I have had this fish for three years and never had him eat anything but flakes and frozen everything. About five months ago i got a jack dempesy and green terror, and just feed them live for the first time. At first my shark just ate his regular food no change but the next day he attacked and slowly ate a minnow.

yea lol. its fine. i wouldnt keep feeding him live though, sometimes they start to get picky and thats all they will want to eat and trust me thats a pain in the butt

The bigger that black shark gets the more aggression. Live feedings are not going to help. I had a 5 inch one eat a hole through the side of 12 inch knife. Not usually good community fish, doesn't play well with others.

I have a 24" black shark, she is reasonably aggressive, but never eats other live fish. She is housed with all sorts, ranging from 13" mahseer, through various other 5" to 12" labeos, with the smallest stuff being 3" garra/algae eaters. They are a scavenger by nature, so will eat meat no problem (she will eat prawns, mussels, cockles, whitebait etc) but they are not a piscivore hunter as a general rule. Of course if yours is eating live fish, then you are stuck with it, lfor me, I don't have that problem especially as she does live with some rare fish.
