Hi Mr. MFK;

just a quick question before my essay...
mardel maracide; on a thatfishplace catalog it says "one drop per gallon" and on the mardel packaging it says "use 2 capfuls per 10gallons of water".
i am pretty sure the suggested dosage doesn't match...10drops is not going to fill up one capful.
who should i trust?

and mardel coppersafe; it says to remove any invertebrates without an exoskeleton from tank; but are malaysian trumpets snails safe?

well here i go.
i had lost a parrot fish from black spot disease; it already had it when i picked it up from petco, thinking it was a cool and unusual pattern on a 4" parrot.
5days later he died; so i went to go get another parrot from a different petco. this time i chose a healthy looking one. 5days later now this one is starting to get black on him, i think the disease was still left in the tank and the new parrot caught it.
well i'm going to be treating it with some kind of medication(i have maracide, coppersafe, melafix, pimafix) but on the box it says that it is recommeneded to use a hospital tank. but i'm thinking of leaving the parrot in his current tank since i would have to treat the main tank anyways to get rid of all the black spot disease.
but the thing is i have other tankmates that aren't parrots. will they be safe?
i read that arowanas are sensitive to meds. but i currently do not have one. i do however have some catfish(iridescents and pictus and pleco) and i thought i read about scaleless fish being sensitive to meds also.... what should i do?
can i treat parrot in the main tank with the following tankmates; 3iridescent sharks, pleco, tinfoil barb, pacu, pictus catfish, kribensis cichlid, oscars, bala sharks, bluegill, and the possibly diseased parrot.

and i went to petco and found 2 healthy looking parrots; i was already thinking of adding another 2(since i didn't want my parrot to be alone).
but they might be sold within a week.....can i buy these guys now and put them in my main tank?
i'm just thinking if they get the disease they'll be medicated anyways... they're so cute!!

i don't have a quarantine tank that i can keep these guys in...
what do you say?

and thanks for reading this long thread

You should trust the instructions on the bottle. Malaysain trumpet snails wouldn't be safe. I wouldn't trust that with any invertebrates Malaysian trumpet snails have a shell, but no exoskeleton. There will always be more parrots out there that you can buy after your fish are medicated. They may come with other diseases like ich, or other parisites. I have treated catfish for diseases not specifically labeled for used with catfish, and have never lost 1. depending on your catfish and how old it is, it shouldn't be a problem. What size of a tank do you have?
