Black spots in the white of a a black diamond?

not sure if this is just the way this Ray is developing or some kind of parasite/infection?

The rays started developing these dots in the white about a year ago. No sign of illness and on no other Ray. I’ve grown her up from 5 inches. She’s about 18 inches now.

Any thoughts?

This is just down to the quality of the ray. They are known as 'dirty' spots.
As far as I know its in the genes/bloodline of the ray and nothing to do with things such as water quality. Diet 'may' play a part?

Yep or like Jim said could be dirty spotting....

She started out pure white - is it typical they develop later on?

Its not typical no, as I said it is down to the quality of the gene pool and bloodline parentage.

Sometimes if the area is scraped up they will heal that wa as well. I have rays that had a pure white spot that was bit and it healed back broken up a bit like that. Shouldn’t be a health issue though.
