black substrate experiment

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cool...

I noticed the same thing with my Delhezi Bichir. I've had him in black sand for 4 or 5 months now. In fact my marbel goby and banded sailfin shark are really dark now. When I upgrade to a new tank definetly going white sand.

I have a grow out tank that im cycling for a endichri. He's only 2" now. Because of what i saw with black sand Im going to try green rock in the grow out tank. Ill take pics and if i notice any color change ill post.

awesome. please tell me you don't keep ur bichirs in a bowl.. LOL

I find that the darker coloration can bring out other colours as well. We have delhezis at work ok black gravel and it really brings out a ton of green on them. When they get bigger we move them to a tank that unfortunately has white gravel and wash out quite a bit. Still a nice pattern but the green becomes un-noticeable.

True. My Delhezi has a neon type tint to his back fin. You can only see it under Intense LED light. Im saving to build my own LED lighting system. cant wait. but its so expensive.

Same thing happened to my senigal. Had mine in a 20 long with white sand and it was light as can be but when I put him in my 75 with black sand and the change was night and day, or day and night in this case.
