Any ideas or thoughts on the subject

Sand would actually do the opposite. Your geos would actually benefit much more from sand. I don't recommend using gravel, as the geos love to sift, and they can get the gravel lodged in their throat.

oh ok, cause i was told by a friend that the BTMS was to rough and would harm their mouths. my friend has pool sand but i wanted to use a darker grade of sand .

The black moon sand is made from crushed obsidian. When obsidian fractures it can leave behind very sharp edges. As the Geos sift through it, it can damage their mouths, throats & gills. Don't use BTMS with eartheaters!

I agree 100% with Scatocephalus. Do NOT use the BTMS with earth eaters. The look is tempting. Stick with the pool filter sand....been using it for years on my geos with not an issue. Besides, it's cheap.

cool response guys, i just thought i needed a darker substrate cause it seems like the sand(pool) reflects so much light i cant really see the coolrs in the fish, when i had black course rock gravel theire colors showed better . any ideas how to get around this effect of the pool sand. i have t5 lighting on one tank and t8 pn the other both 125 g's

if you can find it 3m black quartz works well,i have it in my 125 geo pelligrinni tanks and they love it and i have no problems with it.
