I have a tank that is all black except for the clear front (obviously) and I love it. I have black sand in it, and the fish color looks great. I also think it would be cool with ghost shrimp on the bottom. I like contrast:)

Puffer + Ghost shrimp - great idea rallysman

I put way too many ghost shrimp in my tank because I love to watch them. I would do that if I were you and if you didn't mind replaced ghost shrimp every once in a while.

This may be a dumb question. Can you put sand with cichlids? I have a 125 gallan tank and want it t ostand out. Thought the sand would be cool. I was planning on getting some EBJD's. I would welcome any suggestions. Thanks

i just did a tank with the black sand, yep its good for most cichlids, just rinse, or let the sand settle, then syphon out about half the water to get any floaters, and i would move the filter intake up as high as you can to prevent too much sand intake , which could burn up the motor.

I hope I'm not derailing this thread but doesn anybody have a pic of a tank with black sand or gravel with a blue background?

I have 2 tanks with black sand and it's pretty cool. Definitely looks sleek, but when the fish crap...it's really visible. So if you keep up on your maintainence, than it's all good. Here's some old and new pics with black sand...
