exactly what is black water? i hear it is used alot with aros and would like to know what it is. thanks! -jordan

The Amazon region has what is called "black water". It is stained because of all the leaf litter in the water. The tannins stain the water, and it appears black with depth. You can use blackwater extract to simulate this, but it will discolor your water.

It has some good tannins and nutrients too. Think of it as a good "water conditioner" to simulate Amazonia.

It also calms many aros down.

next question. how do i aquire this stuff?

take a trip down to south america and collect some of the leave litter off the rainforest floor :nilly:

no but seriously you can achieve the same ****, by filtering with either peat, ketapang, AKA almond leaves (i honesty hate that name because isnt that the same tree to get nuts off of? :screwy: ) all you can buy from a lfs, ordering online, mmmm i think we have afew people that can supply the stuff.

you can also buy extract of the stuff in a bottle.

actually wurm A blackwater river is a deep, slow moving channel of water that flows through forested swamps and wetlands AKA flooded rain forests. think of it like water flowing through some filter media.

ok...where? this is new to me. i have never heard of black water until i joined MFK. id like to maybe try it though. also is there anything else that calms them down?

blacking out the background and sides of the tank also calms aros down since there is less to scan and see
