actually wurm A blackwater river is a deep, slow moving channel of water that flows through forested swamps and wetlands AKA flooded rain forests. think of it like water flowing through some filter media.

is that BACKwater?

you can also help keep them calm (in addition to the other suggestions) dimming the lighting a little bit.

ok...where? this is new to me. i have never heard of black water until i joined MFK. id like to maybe try it though. also is there anything else that calms them down?

I do not mind helping if I could. Demjor...most any LFS, especially ones that can get oddballs, will have the stuff. Or you can go online to a supplier and get it. I bought mine shown below at a local LFS. It was cheap, like 4 bucks I think. I used the entire contents (treats 100 gallons/bottle) on this 220 gallon show tank 3 days ago. Notice the "slight brown hue" in the water? That is the tanins at work. It calms the fish by
1. reducing stress levels and all of the already mentioned positives.
2. Promotes a more"natural" habitat.
3. Contains trace elements, minerals and extract of peat that would ordinarily not appear in your aquarium.
4. IMHO, gives a warmer glow to the tank by slightly causing light to refract and bend around....hence a nice warm beautiful tank:headbang2 .

It is good stuff. Bottled or dry leaf remedied. Hope this helps!

First pic was last week...before extract. Last 3 was as of tonight for reference

i'm also interested in this...

questions: for "tankyou"...
1) did your PH level go down at all? (gradually or suddenly if it did?)(did it also stabalize?)

2) would you add more "black water " with every water change?

3)would the bottled stuff be better then just filtering water through peat? (other than it being way faster to achieve results)

sorry not trying to steal your thread "demjor19"..i just need to know thats all :grinno:

thanks

thanks, do you have a Jar? how big is he? ...i got a 6" Jar and he loves to jump at night...its completly natural for them to jump...although, it gets pretty annoying at times..worrying about him getting hurt or even worse poping through the lid...keep those lids on TIGHT! :grinno:

mine is about a 5" silver. its not so much the jumping, but he just freaks when there is any sudden movement. he is just goin through a phase but i dont want him to get hurt.

I use the dried leafs instead of BW. Definately showing much better colouration in my fishs and some other benefits.:)
