I was looking at the fish in petsmart and they had some small black and white/grey stripped fish in there labeled as cons and that their max size is 4".
I have no clue about cons and want to get a breeding pair just for fun. Could anyone tell me what kind of con this could be?
Sorry about the vague description but if you give me the scientific name or w/e i could google it and see if thats what i saw.
thx for the help!!

Marble convict is albino and striped mix. Usually a grey/white color with some black banding. if it is very dark with a lot of stripes it just a standard con. Amatitlania nigrofasciata. Pretty much the easiest to breed. Add water fish and food. 30 gallon tank is pretty cool for a pair.

im pretty sure thats what it was! (marble)
Do they stay around 4"?
What size is sexually mature?
Are they picky about mates?
How do you sex them?
Will they bother my rope fish if he doesnt bother them or will they peck at him all the time?
I have a 29 gal. it is moderately planted and will soon be heavily planted

They have no preference of mates. They will readily breed at will, like guppies. You will soon be overrun with more babies than you can house. Females have an orangeish belly, males will develop a nuchal hump, grow larger (6"), and have longer flowing fins. When they pair up and mate, they will run your rope into the ground, and probably knock around some plants in the process.

so it wouldnt be a good idea to have cons and a rope? Well if this is the case then no cons...any alternatives to them that would be easy breeders like them and protect their nest but not go after my rope?

for that size tank and if your going planted you may want to look into some South American dwarfs.. I think bolivian rams are awesome personality counts a lot for them plus there small maybe even 2 pairs. But yeah nic's are good but they may get too big for that size tank. Blue acara maybe but again the tank is a bit small for anything other then dwarf or maybe firemouth pair? still some aggro.

Convicts are the easiest fish to breed.

I once randomly picked two convicts, not even knowing their genders to help cycle a 40 gallon breeding tank. The substrate was sand and I had two resin root decorations in the tank. The two convicts paired and spawned a cloud a fry within a month.

actually, they are not albino...not the pink, nor the marble, they are Leucistic.
