Convicts are the easiest fish to breed.

I once randomly picked two convicts, not even knowing their genders to help cycle a 40 gallon breeding tank. The substrate was sand and I had two resin root decorations in the tank. The two convicts paired and spawned a cloud a fry within a month.

for that size tank and if your going planted you may want to look into some South American dwarfs.. I think bolivian rams are awesome personality counts a lot for them plus there small maybe even 2 pairs. But yeah nic's are good but they may get too big for that size tank. Blue acara maybe but again the tank is a bit small for anything other then dwarf or maybe firemouth pair? still some aggro.

for the bolivian rams, are they difficult to breed like the German Blue R's that i have been reading about?
i looked em up and reall like the colour and the look of them (bolivians)
