Black Wolf and Odoe - don't do it

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh man! Sorry for your loss, but I must say that its quite impressive. How big were the two fish if I may ask?

Went well for a few months. Then last night, I saw the tip of my breeder female's tail fin hang out of my wolf's mouth. Prodded him with a stick. He regurgitated a few inches and bit the pike through, swallowed the front. Quite impressive, if it wasn't so devastating....
I'm so sorry for your loss!

Sorry for your loss! Now other members can believe that my wolf chopped my green Lac in half like your wolf did to your pike!
It's not other member can't believe that. It's you who said your other wolf fish disappear. You did not say you witness your Aimara chopped your other wolf fish in half. You said your catfish went into the wolf cave and came out losing the eye or eyes. That's not how wolf fish do damage. Wolf fish takes big bite or swallow.

Sorry for your loss.....

I had to remove my Cuda from my wolf grow out for this same reason.

Can you give us approximate sizes on each of the fish involved so we can judge when it's time to move stuff around? If even one of us learn from your mistake then at least it's not a complete loss........
Do it Al. My 24" Aimara can take a 14" barb or 12" wide bar SD without a problem. The thing about wolf fish is that even the fish is too wide/tall than the width of its mouth, it still take the bite as big as it can get. If you have a group, whether Aimara or mala, they will take turn to bite the fish until nothing is left. Wolf fish is attracted to silvery and white belly fish.

Sizes? Wondering if I'm still safe or if I should rehome of the odoe, about the same length but the wolf has a lot of girth on her, both around 10inches maybe a little bigger, opinion?

Looking at them now, I don't think he will try because I'd say he's well fed, and fat, but I don't doubt him being able to fit my odoe in his mouth.

My wolf is just over 1 ft, the pikes about 3'' shorter, and, allow me to point out the obvious, their torpedo-bodies fit nicely into the wolf's mouth. Obviously, 3'' is not enough difference, I took that risk, thought I'd gotten away with it. And I now also know that a bored wolf will be tempted even by surface-dwellers. I'd been feeding it 8-12 Massivore every night. After initial reluctance, the wolf started eating the pellets like a dog eats treats. That should've been plenty of calories, though clearly not enough volume to signal a full stomach.

Never a dull moment.

The female just came back... Looks like catch& release into a solo tank was too much stress on a full stomach.
Now my fishroom stinks. Removed chunks with a micron net and turned up the drip system...
