Not a black wolf fish. Mala.
 
If u get an under jaw shot then will put it to rest but w/o it likely mala just so u know why I said its mala. But looks very mala-ish anyway.
 
thanks guys yes i was looking at the underside of his jaw , or trying to through the glass . it appears that his jaw line goes sorta into a v indicating not a curu . but its hard to tell for sure looking through the glass. he was supposed to be a black so im a little disappointed . it does have a darker coloration and a more blunt head so thought i would ask you guys for your thoughts maybe next time i net him i will get a better look but ya im thinking mala too
 
Hope you didn't pay a lot for it. Should have tried posting a pic before purchasing.
 
i did pay a good buck for him . what i would consider the going rate for a black im really a little upset about it actully . but at the same time i have seen lots of mala pics and although he does look like mala , i cant help but think he also looks a little different some how . could he possibly be a micropletes ? i wouldnt feel quite so bad if it was how confident are you about that

ExoticGREEN ? do these photos help with that possible id ? . anyway here are a couple under jaw photos i just took and im pretty sure these confirm that he is not a curu ?

I would consider if the collection point is known and has the lateral dotting w/o black gravel. Does look like the choco microlepes. I can't see it but if you can exoticgreen then good eye. Still would lean toward mala.
