Black wolves

I wouldn't say it is actively aggressive unless you resemble food. It should play well with large fish that dont share the same space. However, all it takes is one bad day, they have large teeth and strong jaws. But my experience with one is limited, hopefully another member will chime in.

A member and personal friend of mine isde02 isde02 had a large Black Wolf with large Peacock Bass and Polypterus a few yrs ago.

Well the aimara that I have is a shy being, that is also ok with barbs, unless they're small and he thinks he can eat em, but for some reason I have seen him attack the glass when my 4 year old is near his tank. And the aggression that he displays during these outbursts, would make me think twice before I would add him to a comm

I find this fish interesting. Just read this article:

Sort of validates what you said. Also looked at one eating a mouse on youtube.

My black is always at the front of the tank, and all of my silver dollars have had bite marks on them. He killed one of them in the first 2 weeks. Hes calmed down since i got him eating pellets though. Never bothered my oscar.

I had a black wolf for a while... they dont really like other fish in their space but they arent overly aggressive otherwise. Mine didnt like a clown knife and immediately killed a 15 inch lung fish upon me putting it in the tank. Other then that it was a cool fish.

I think DB said with aimara he noticed they're more people aggressive than towards other fish.

My experience with a curu I'll address both types of aggression. Predatory aggression he tried to eat tankmates the first few months, then stopped and if I got a new fish that he could eat he wouldn't for the rest of the time I kept him. Never ate live, which I only feed when introducing something new as a distraction, wonder if it even works. My gold wolf doesn't eat live either after so long without it. Now territorial aggression, I find the curu wasn't to bad as long as he didnt perceive the other fish as threat, so the only fish he didn't kill that attacked him was an odoe, everything's else that bit him would be killed eventually, some over night, some over a month. I had a bichir bigger than him he didn't bother, I've actually shown pictures of him seemingly trying to protect the bichirs. As mentioned, and something I try to stress to new wolf keepers, they can do damage without really trying, so you want to try to avoid all territorial disputes possible. Mine tolerated a lot of fish but there was also a lot he didn't. I stopped keeping cichlids with him early on cause they never lasted. I notice with about every wolf I keep they always nip new tankmates once, now with my black if they bit back their fate was pretty much sealed if I left them. My guy was good with nonaggressive fish but nothing that tried to defend itself. Funny most people would advise to keep something that'll stick up for itself lol. As I always say, it depends on your specific fish and even what it's kept in, rearranging or changing the Aquascape can be enough to calm a wolf, or he could be a killer in one tank and a punk in another. They have their own personalities you just have to see what works through trial and error pretty much.
