This bites :( . I really wanted to buy the SHOW MALE BLACKBELT CICHLID from a local fish store ( The blackbelt cichlid is in a show tank at the store ). I originally offered $500 and the guy called the owner and the owner said it was okay to sell him for $500. Now I have the $$$ and I think the owner might want more  How much more do you think a 15 inch show male blackbelt is worth??? $500 for a fish is lot's of money...

if u had a pic it would help us alot to help determine that question.

personally wouldnt pay that much 4 alot of fishes

I couldn't justify spending that much money on a common fish like a blackbelt even if this is a so called show fish. Why not just buy a few young fish from different sources and grow them out then pick out the nicest one?

local area LFS has a 6=7" Blackbelt for 40.....500 is more than i would pay for a single fish..my opinion

That is a ripoff, buy you 50 babies and grow out the nicest

IMO that is way to much for a blackbelt, unless there is somthing super special about it. Just get some young ones. I just picked one up a 2 in one for $3 so not really worth $500 IMO. Maybe take a zero off and that would be an OK deal.

Also you can turn any fish into a show fish if you want, all you have to do is say it is one and keep its fins nice.

A lfs my area has a beutiful black belt at 40.00 at the 6" mark. Its at petland in cicero n.y. give em a call I'm sure they'd love to get rid of it, cuz no one wants to spend 40 bucks for one. If they dropped it down to 20 dollars I'd consider it, seriously don't pay 500 for one, that is crazy.

Low long do these cichlids live? If it's that big, it may only have several more months to live? Just got a healthy looking young adult and see it grow.

Well, its unlikely that its only got a few months left to live. Cichlids can easily live for 15+ years with proper care...but she does have a point. You have no idea how old that fish is, maybe its already pushing 14 years, you know? And even if you knew it was only 2 years old...that's ridiculous. I can't believe you're actually considering paying $500 for an adult blackbelt. You could buy a couple new tanks with that, if you did it right. No way in hell am I going to encourage you to go through with that 'deal'. You're getting completely ripped off. As suggested, just buy some juveniles and grow them out, then pick your fav. That way you'll likely end up with a breeding pair, too, which will be much more interesting than a solo $500 stupid fish.
