If they are hybrids they must be using hormones to induce spawning, perhaps stripping the eggs and milt from two different species. There are quite a few species of Myleus that they could of used some can get about 18 inches. Imagine a monster red hook that big.
Its a possibility but its not uncommon for same genus specie's varients to breed and the resulting hybrids fry able to produce offspring when mature. Hopefully one of us who have aqured some are able to find out.
Many varients of cichlids of the same genus are able to produce off spring the are fertile.
