I have the tetra i didnt see any other brands at my LFS where can u get peat moss?

Thanks for all the info!!....... It looks like 9 out of ten of ya'll agree that Tetra Blackwater extract is pretty much useless. Looks like I'll stick with the good ole Peat. I live in the south and use well water to fill my tank. The H20 PH is highly alkaline, so peat and drift wood is critical. Got juvie p's coming soon and I want there set up to be just right. I'll try to show some pics once set up!!

The only Peat Moss media that i seen sold was the FlUVAL granules. Costs like 10-12 bucks for a little box!!.....I like to find how get it cheap in bulk?

Peat moss is great. It also raises acidity if I recall correctly.
I used peat moss from a gardening store that sold pure peat moss. I just stuck it in a nylon filter bag and put it in the filter and it worked for me.Rinse first.

you can get peat moss at home depot in the gardening section.. saw some the last time i went.. not sure how much it is or anything.. but it's there.
boil the peat moss in water.. and use the water as black water extract or somethin like that..
if you want the tinted water effect.. take the carbon out of your filter... but the water doesn't stay clear... so yeah

make sure you test it before you use it in the tank.
I bought a small bag from Home Depot;Ingredients:100% Spagnum Peat Moss
I put a handfull in a 2l bottle and filled halfway with RO/DI water, let it sit for a couple days shaking the bottle everytime I remembered to do so.After a few days I filtered some of the water and tested it for Nitrate +60,might even have been 80,was pretty red in the tube. Same thing happened with a small bag bought from the local pet shop (haven't had the chance to let the owner know what I thought:irked:)

I went to Lowes, and bought one of the square compressed bundles of peat moss, its like 20 maybe more lbs.No problem with it
