Bland color rtc! help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is good but we are talking crusteceans with the red(dish) pigment in their shell. Please, take a look at the links - they describe that.

I tend to agree with the maturity argument, albeit recently some one said their sister had a 2" RTC with a bright red tail. Cannot remember who - I hope they will chime in.

Anyhow, These should answer your questions too:

That was me. IIRC, I said it was vividly red, not bright. It wasn't the brown color or tan that a lot of them are. I'll see if I can get pics.

It was only a little more red than this one though. I think this fish is off to a great start for coloring up.

Sweet! Thanks for all the helpful comments. This makes me.excited for the color. I have a jack Dempsey and just got a violet dragon fish. Because the catfish is primarily nocturnal I usually feed them all at night and something different every day. I put in a bunch of feeders at the beginning of the week, Sunday, (zebra danios since they are less likely to carry diseases), the next day ill give them pellets (a mixture of hikari cichlid growth formula and hikari cichlid gold and sinking color boosting tropical fish pellets), then ill give them frozen brine shrimp, then fresh meat like thawed chicken breast with fay cut off since its very lean. Then usually ill give more pellets until Friday, no food saturday (that way they're starving when I out feeders in Sunday and its very entertaining to watch). I'm thinking about leaving the current pellets for hikari massivore or carnivore sinking wafers. I think for my fish's sizes that the smaller wafers would be better. Any opinions or changes to my current diet? Thanks!

Sorry, Chicxulub, for putting wrong words in your mouth. Yeah, a pic could put us all on the same page.

I'd replace the feeders and the chicken with frozen-thawed foods of aquatic origin, e.g., fish pieces, shrimp, mussel, squid, etc. An occassional earthworm is always good for a young fish.

And where do you get that stuff? I've never seen frozen squid, fish or shrimp. Are you talking about the frozen stuff you get at the grocery store?

Yeah most frozen fish squid and shrimp are the same stuff u purchase at the grocery store. Just make sure they aren't pre seasoned, because alot of shrimp come that way.
