He's pretty. Love the points on his fins. And those eyes..... I have mostly species tanks, so they don't fight. I just love the look of this fish. And with a nickname of "Starry Night Cichlid" how can you go wrong for someone who has carried the nickname Luna for years? Perfect match for me, I think. lol

@duanes sorry your new female got whipped on. She is a small spot, correct? I keep reading that they are much more likely to fight with anything new than the large spot.

I may have to put a divider in there for the MR. now and then to give any ladies a break.

@tanyaelec11 do you ever sell the fry? This thread makes me want to try getting a successful pair, maybe starting together young would help? Anyways I'm just curious

I have 3 small spots in a 530gal with the largest male being around 12 inchs very beautiful fish the other 2 are 7 inch and 4 inch the large male will chase but no fin nipping or damage . I just received 6 large spots from Dave's rare aquarium fish around 3 weeks ago they are in my 125 gal sump growing out I am excited to see how they turn out I will try and post a pick of my large male.

Oh yes, please post pix. And let us know how they do if you combine them or if the new large spots seem more/less aggressive to themselves or new tankmates. Thx!

I don't sell the fry because of the shipping costs and permits and such . I just enjoy watching them :) Large spots are next on my list

My "andapa" (large spot) was also shipped from Dave's Rare Fish.
He's the one that did in his brothers and sisters, so in my experience they are no less aggressive than the small spot.
I believe tank size is one of the major factors.
But as you saw with trying to a add a female to the 500 gal pool, well......
Below the one from Jose'/Daves Rare Fish.
