Hello everybody in MFK land. I have a "red devil" that I picked up from Petsmart at about an inch in April that has funky black blotches on his upper sides and its beneath his white scales so I know it's not peeling. He started to develop these blotches about 4 months back. He's healthy and happy and growing like a freak so I'm not concerned about him, just curious if anybody has any ideas on what it could be from. Thanks.

Thanks Xp3rt. I was actually talking about the black blemish that can be seen high up on his back, basically just below his dorsal fins expansion.

Just looks like diluted piebald coloration to me. Nothing to worry about.

Here are a few pics of the black lines. They seem to extend from his back where his dorsal expands down to his lateral line. Again, I'm not concerned, everything about him screams "healthy Amphilophus" but it's just a curiosity as I've never seen any other midevil with funky black blotches under their scales
