Blind Goldfish Health

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sorry bur I honestly don't think that's over stocked. If your fish CA turn around and swim fine its not over stocked. As long as your tests are fine I wouldn't worry about it. Obviously its not a perm home.

This is over stocked to me

Problem is that his tests are not fine. I would change water more often and clean filters less...not sure about the particular filter you are using but I would look into more biological component of filtering(and monitor that ammonia level)

Craigs list bro. Check it everyday. If u do that for a month youll find increadble deals on filters and tanks. For example...some one just posted an emporor 400 for 25 bucks. Says its only 5 days old. You cant have it cuz im gona buy it but.....just keep looking man. You dont join a web site that is about monster fish and tell everyone u cant upgrade a 20gal. Im sure their will be many other site that will be more friendly to that kind of talk. We all have huge tanks. Good lucks. The fish look great! Get them a bigger thank tho man...come on. Make those fishes happy.

The husband is the main preventor of a larger tank. He's cool w/ my 240gal bought the thing for me. But after 2 snakes, 3 rescued turtles, a rescued oscar, 2 rescued plecos, and a purchased turtle, bearded dragon, and tiger oscar... he's done w/ the tanks;). Plus... theres only so much space in a house :P. BUT I'll definitely b on thr look out. I can hopefully convince him. "Its just 30 more gallons". Thx for all the advice. And the mostly constructive criticism.
And i will most certainly not feed my loved fish to anything...

Also. I must point out that no one has actually answered my original question... but. I think its safe to assume that a few months in this tank will not b a death sentance. I'd like to get him his own tank. No decor or anything else for him to bump into. He seems to be figuring out the layout and isn't really bumping into things. I think w/ frequent water changes, constant monitoring, and on the look out for an upgrade. Everything will b sufficient temporary quarters. Thx again.

Blind goldfish need no special care. Just don't rearrange the tank decorations, they memorize them. There even use to be a blind lineage of goldfish. It's probably extinct now. I've not seen any for sale in my lifetime.

Well, if I had that bioload - say in a broken-tank emergency - I'd be doing at least 50% water changes once a day, and I would not be feeding the animals AT ALL. The one big white goldfish alone is looking at (with a once-weekly water change and light feeding, the general goal of most hobbyists) a 55 to 75 gallon tank minimum, bigger the better. With emergent plants. And a slew of filtration.

The turtle is a whole other galaxy. Being young, it should be eating at least twice a day. That could, under the right circumstances, produce more ammonia than the goldfish combined. You're looking at a 120g, IMO, at the least.

But I should add to your peace of mind that goldfish and turtles are both hardy! Do lots of water changes and only feed the bare minimum, and you can bide your time.

Do obtain some filter muck from a healthy tank and dump as much in there as you can. There should never be any ammonia! You might be killing your bacteria, because you should have nitrates in the hundreds, and you don't.

Gouramies used to be very hardy, but are now weaker thanks to inbreeding. He might do fine, he might not. Just do your best!

........... If buying another filter is not an option, try put some portos in your tank(roots in water, leaves/stems out)

the plants are spelled Pothos.
