Last week I noticed that both of my beanis werent eating. Before, they were eating more than all the other fish in the tank, then they just stopped. In the past couple days I noticed the stringy white feces and they have become a little lethargic (not laying on the bottom but just sorta less active). On friday I did a 50% WC and raised the temp. Yesterday (sunday), I added prazi to the tank as suggested by others. Today I did another 20% WC and replaced it with slightly warmer prazi treated water. I know that its only been 1 day since medicating but Ive noticed little change in behavior and they still are crapping white strings. It was suggested by another friend of mine that I should add epsom salts to the water but the tank is planted and that would cause a bunch of more headaches. Also ,I am a 1 tank man so a QT tank isnt an option... Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Cross my fingers and wait.....

So to sum it up: Day 2 of prazi treatment... No noticable change.. 1 beani is starting to show a little swelling in the abdomen. Both are still in swimming shape, no laying around...

Are your Beanie WC? I had 2 that had the same symptoms as yours do. I tried water changes, salt, and medications with no luck. I believe it is some sort of internal parasite. It wiped out 4 of my H. Labridens and two WC Beani. Sorry, I hope yours make it....

They are not. I got them from Jeff Rapps and he said that they were either F1 or F2. He couldnt accurately say as they came from a pond with both F0 and F1 fish in it..... Thanks man...

Dang thats a hard blow Rob! :( I lost my entire tank of deppi, labridens, and pasiones to something similar to that.

Get them onto spirulina flakes/pellets if possible, also, you should get some of that NLS that has the internal parasite treatment made into it. Adding a PINCH of fresh garlic to the water with it before you put it in the tank might help induce them to eat it.

I hope it all works out for you. You are already doing everything that I would be doing, minus the adding salt part.

Thanks Jer. The majority of their diet was crushed up hikari algea wafers, so they were getting tons of spirulina. I was really careful not to feed them too much protien. The other fish in the tank are fine, thank god, but I feel bad for them because I am holding off feeding them for a couple days. They are pigs anyway and could use a few days fast....

I used metronidazole...with no luck...
I was told prazi-pro by some friends with beani experience. They said that it worked for them. If it does work for me I swear that Ill wear a Tshirt with their logo on it or put a sticker of prazi-pro on my truck right under the CLASH sticker........

Clout :D

Don't stop feeding, even if they only get a little, it's better than nothing. The food running thru the gut is supposed to be helpful in pushing/pulling the negatives through the intestines.

Good luck!
