Bloat battle (day to day)

I have had good results by mixing Metronidazole into their food...if you can get them to eat again. I usually dissolve Metronidazole in as little tank water as possible (may take a while), then soak FD krills or FD bloodworms in it. Do it for a week or so, and the white stringy poop should stop.

I've also heard good things from Sean and JD that Jungle Labs Parasite Clear pills work well.

Good luck buddy....

like i said, bro
- take out infected fish and put them into their own buckets with sponge filters
- bump up the heat slowly to 90F
- add epsom salt. i think i was dosing like 2 tablespoons per gallon of water
- change water everyday, but prevent temperature shocks by adding water at same temperatures
- stop all kinds of feeding
- in a week or two things should be ok...

I'm having a bloat and white poo problem with some SA/CA cichlids too. I treated with epsom salt, and Praziquantal and Metronidazole, with no improvement. I discovered that prazi and metro are not effective against nematodes (roundworms). For that, you need a stronger worming med like Levamisole, Fenbendazole, or Flubendazole.

Not suggesting you go right out and try it, since bloating could be caused by a bunch of different things. But it's just something to think about and research on your own. It could be a possible option if all else fails.

Day 3; another 40% WC with prazi treated warm water. The fish are still swimming and looking attentive. The swelling on the larger beani looks to have subsided a little bit I think. No swelling at all with the smaller one. Still not ''lethargic'' but tend to just hover in a comfortable place. Uninterested in food though. Just watching while the carpintis and macs scramble for food... Also saw some more white stringy crap from the larger one today.

Ok removed the plants and added epsom salts at 1 tbsp per 5 gallons.

If its truly bloat use Clout as directed. Ive kept Tropheus for years, notorius for bloat but the clout treatment worked every time. Water must be clean and give em 3 doses as directed. When they are cured dont let them eat so good. Make sure they get alot of vegetation in their diet. Lettuce, Zuchinni etc. Strait up protein is the expressway to bloat.

Another 30% WC with warm epsom salted water. Appropriate prazi treatment added. Still no noticable change in the fish. Although this morning one of them actually looked at and approached some floating pellets, but didnt partake. Other than that they show no interest in feeding. Still white stringy crap. It pains me to see 4'' of white stringy stuff coming out of a 4 1/2'' fish.
Thanks to all of you for all of the suggestions, but Im going to stick with the 2 methods that Im trying as I dont want to over medicate the fish (is this possible?)..
They are still looking alert at least and not resting on the substrate or any fixed objects and are still standing their ground with the other cichlids...

Today I had a freak stand up paddleboard surfing accident and partially severed the top didgit of my right middle finger.. 5 hrs in the ER and a bunch of stitches later, I got home and did a 20% WC. Fish still looking the same and still not eating. Lots of stringy white crap:irked:.. Doing my best with prazi treatment and epsom salts and daily WCs. I hope at least 1 of them makes it....
