Bloated Oscar for over a week, acts fine

Raised scales means they are sticking out resembling an acorn somewhat. If you type in dropsy on an image search you'll probably find some examples.

I wasn't trying to kill the fish was kinda joking out of frustration about my $20 heater jumping up 20 degrees or whatever it was in one day, my house temp didn't change that much. I never thought of having my fish binge drink to death....that's a new one. I had to put a few bettas down as they were rotting but I put them in the freezer in a cup of water. Didn't know anyone cut up their fish, couldn't do that to the Perch even I think.

Anyway, :Update: I guess it must be eggs, no changes so she went back in the big tank and got fed, will see what happens. My angelfish didn't even look swollen both times before laying at least 40 eggs and her egg tube was much bigger in comparison so I assumed it was intestines sticking out of the Oscar. Guess I poisoned her a bit for no reason :\

actually, freezing to death is very painful contrary to popular belief.

first the fish will become disoriented and hurt itself as it moves due to parts of it becoming frail from the temp, often causing small fractures in its skeletal frame while it moves its body. fish are cold blooded which is a double-doozie to the fact that its area is becoming colder. the eyes will fog and crack from the outside while the fish is still alive and the fish will go through fever much like humans and start to slow down and numb, then right before death it will have a sudden and VERY painful burst of total consciousness like all animals and die seconds after. this whole process of freezing to death can entail several hours of agony depending on how much water must be frozen. even worse if they where in a big container as the temperature would creep up ever so slowly.

rubbing alcohol will take less than 10 seconds to kill your fish in high volume. if you have small fish you could take a cup and pour some rubbing alcohol into it to throw your fish into. they will swim for about 2 seconds, then just cease to move. your fish is dead.

oh btw, you said your betas were rotting, you know fin and body rot is common and curable with meds right?

Thanks, I did not make them suffer on purpose :( I read that they peacefully went to sleep :\ So booze is the best way? I don't think suffocating would be much fun either which leaves blunt trauma......

I tried melafix and water changes but couldn't save them so I guess I gave up after a few tries and thought I was putting them out of their misery.
