Thanks for the suggestions Jmart and RD.

My concern is treating him while he's in a community tank where the other fish are doing just fine. I would think my best bet is to put him in a seperate smaller tank where he would be the only fish. .... or do you think epsom salt and maybe even (duckweed) if i can find it, will be okay for the other fish in the tank also.

Epsom soaked pellets won't harm any of your fish, in fact it will help them as well if yours is a case of spiro/hex. Just follow the directions in the link, it's a non-medicated & very safe treatment.
