Blood Parrot Breeding

Yes i wonder how they breed blood parrot since male are always infertile.

Breeders have fertile fish obviously. I could see them chemically sterilizing them but then that leads to the question why the next generation from that fish are also possibly sterile.

I have a female convict that was put in there about a month ago and she swam around looking for a new mate I guess.. She didn't even try the blood parrot and before that I have 2 males that don't even look at the blood parrots other than to chase them. Is there anything I can do to get the blood parrots and covicts together.

Its a waiting game, sometimes you win sometimes you dont. It usually helps to have a male convict thats the same size as the parrots IMO.

Some male BPs are fertile, I have seen one with my own eyes breeding.

It's just rare, If I were you I would be breeding a female BP with something like a red devil, this way you keep the colour and out of the batch you will still get some shortbodies.

They are, as stated, most likely Syn x RD, to test sex, I would get the one you think is a female and put it with your male JD, and then with the male do the same, you can then judge by their behaviour what sex they are pretty accurately.

About 4 years ago i came across by dumb luck a fertile male. i had a pair with a succesfull spawn. unfortunatly they decided to spawn on the other side of my spawning convict pot so they ate each others babies before i could take video or pic. second time they spawned i took a video of parents with babies its on an old photobucket account which i doubt i can acces anymore if not i would post it for you. i will tell you the only thing i saw different about the male that made me think he might be fertile was that i bought him with convict color at 2" at 3" he peeled to his bright ornage parrot colors. thats all i can tell now a days i would say ur best bet is to look for a male that is not so deformed. dont ask y just do. its the best advice i can offer u. i actually have a breeding porject going on myself. :)

Pics or BS. I wanna see a video of 2 blood parrots gaurding a bunch of fry with no other fish in the tank, then ill believe you ;)

Seriously if its fertile, thats awesome. My guess is it has a higher percentage of either syn or midas, explaining fertility and why it is less deformed

This ^^^

Another thing I realize is that people will mistake SB Pink Convicts aka "Jellybean Parrots" as Blood Parrots so you will get fry but it doesn't mean anything.

Found this video and reminded me of this thread. This is exactly what I was talking about. See how this person is under the impression that they have Blood Parrots but what they have a Pink Convicts.
