I recall reading that ‘poor quality’ blood parrots will NOT have a deformed mouth, and instead it will be functioning. This is strange to me that a functioning mouth would be considered poor quality for the fish. I recently picked up a blood parrot that’s about 3” long, and its mouth appears to be working well while eating. The fish is beautiful and has great shape (imo). Is this blood parrot considered to be of poor quality for the standard? Im only asking out of curiosity, as I’m super happy with this find and prefer it over the standard deformed mouth I’ve seen.

My guess is that they are sold for the parroty traits (like a nonfunctioning mouth), similar to a flowerhorn and it’s giant nuchal hump. To not have that is “undesirable” for the breeder, but in reality it’s far better for the fish.

LOL, I read it on the info sheet pinned in here! Perhaps I misunderstood…
A lot of that info is outdated and false. I think it fits a gimic a lot of people seem to want but as far as actual quality goes and preference of people I know, especially in the hybrid space, a messed up mouth is not a good thing and most go for one like yours.
